REVIEW: Deicide, Krisiun, Inferi, Cloak, Firehaze at Brooklyn Monarch | 09.10.2024
Deicide are currently on the road with Krisiun, Inferi, and Cloak for a marathon of a North American tour. Dubbed the "Banished By Sin" tour, the bands are playing 34 shows over the course of 37 days: quite an impressive feat to say the least. Deicide has been a band for as many years as there are stops on the tour, and the metal veterans aren't showing signs of slowing down anytime soon.
The tour hit New York's Brooklyn Monarch last week and I was there with camera in hand, as always, to experience the mayhem. Let's get into it.
FIREHAZE
Joining Deicide and company for local support on this stop was New Jersey-based quartet Firehaze who set a thrashing tone for the night ahead.
CLOAK
The heat emanating from the burning candelabras on stage paled in comparison to the fire and fury delivered by Cloak's performance. The black metal outfit tore through an epic set as the mosh pit began to stir with activity.
INFERI
It may have been six years since I'd last seen Inferi perform, but impossible to forget was their intensity, particularly from vocalist Stevie Boiser, The set from the Nashville death metalers served as a face-melting reminder.
KRISIUN
With nearly as many years under their belts as Deicide, Brazilian metal veterans Krisiun put on a masterclass of metal to bring us into the home stretch of the evening. The band's killer career-spanning set upped the energy ante and got the crowd more comfortable than ever to let loose.
DEICIDE
With the fans thoroughly warmed up and a giant pit brewed and ready for action, Deicide hit the stage to bestow their brutal blasphemy upon Brooklyn Monarch, opening with their classic "When Satan Rules His World." Whether swinging arms in the pit or standing with arms crossed in focused observation, everyone in the crowd was locked in to the performance from the very start.
Deicide mixed the old with the new over the course of their set and featured a handful of tracks from the band's latest release and tour namesake, Banished By Sin.
Deicide's "Banished By Sin" tour continues into October where they'll make their way back down to Tampa, Florida for a homecoming tour closer at The Orpheum.
